About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Davidson as a Principal Planning Officer, Business Improvement. As a key member of the Project Planning team, you will be responsible for assessing, documenting, and implementing opportunities for continuous improvement in the department's planning tools, templates, business processes, systems, and capability.

You will lead the multidisciplinary Project Planning team in Service Strategy, undertaking high-level planning and assurance to support more detailed planning and delivery of infrastructure across the state. Your expertise in business improvement opportunities, project life cycle, governance, and insurance will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identification, analysis, and recommendation of improvements to organisational processes, ensuring they align with the department's strategic goals
  • Support in coordinating and collating inputs and resources into a digital 'project planning handbook' to assist Infrastructure Services Division in planning programs and projects under the department's Infrastructure investment Portfolio
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality assurance frameworks to enhance project planning
  • Support the Project Director, Project Planning in reporting clear updates and insights on business improvement initiatives
  • Preparation of reports, process documentation, and presentations to support continuous improvement efforts
  • Utilise data to assess the effectiveness of current processes and support the proposal of evidence-based solutions for improvement
  • Support the assessment of opportunities for enhancement of planning tools such as allocative models, templates, work processes and capability, and support updates where required
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of frameworks, systems and processes to ensure effective implementation of this major government priority, ensuring consistency, continuity and quality of departmental strategic and operational planning, project and service design, business review, program and project management, reporting, performance and risk management
  • Monitor the implementation of process changes and evaluate their impact
  • Support the development of a revised project design brief template, uplift processes and procedures to include checkpoints ensuring consultations are undertaken, establish guidelines to clearly identify roles and responsibilities in the development of project design briefs, develop process maps that identify roles and responsibilities for consultation, and develop standard operating procedures and guidance material to support the development of project design briefs
  • Assist in managing changes related to process improvements, ensuring smooth implementation and adoption where required, including collaboration with the Project Planning team and other internal teams and stakeholders to facilitate business improvement activities and the communication of and support for the change (including training)
  • Documentation and collation of lessons learned and feedback to the Project Director, Project Planning and Director, Service Strategy
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the department.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience working within Government and/or Education.
  • Demonstrated experience working on large projects/programs within the built environment infrastructure space.
  • Have a good understanding of capital infrastructure projects.
  • Must have strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Although not mandatory, qualifications or industry experience in infrastructure planning, strategic policy or similar will be highly regarded.
  • Confidence in the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Teams, and experience with the Department of Education Content Manager and Microsoft Power Bi would also be highly regarded
