Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women Advocate

Strong Women Talking is seeking a passionate advocate to support Indigenous women who have experienced gender-based violence. This role offers a unique opportunity to join an organisation dedicated to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
Job Description:
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with experience in case work, healing work, advocacy or community support roles. The successful candidate will be able to provide culturally safe case management and brief counselling services to First Nations women navigating crisis, rebuilding safety, and finding healing.
The ideal candidate will be able to identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman, have a deep understanding of the impacts of colonisation, trauma, and cultural displacement, and possess strong communication skills to build trust with clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide culturally safe case management and brief counselling services to First Nations women.
- Support referrals to housing, health, legal, and social services.
- Facilitate group healing sessions and yarning circles.
- Develop individual care plans grounded in self-determination and cultural protocols.
- Advocate for women with respect, dignity, and cultural understanding.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in case work, healing work, advocacy, or community support roles.
- Cultural authority and lived experience as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman.
- Deep understanding of the impacts of colonisation, trauma, and cultural displacement.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
