Infrastructure Maintenance Trainee
As an Infrastructure Maintenance Trainee, you will be responsible for carrying out the physical work of maintaining our rail track. This includes preventative and reactive maintenance activities and minor construction for planned capital upgrades. You will undertake general labouring tasks, track maintenance duties, safety protection work, visual inspections of our rail track, operating heavy machinery, welding, and other maintenance tasks while meeting our standards.
Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. Our 8,500km rail network transports bulk products, passenger, and general freight, including steel and consumer items for import and export markets. The Operations teams work in complex environments to deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable service delivery outcomes for customers, stakeholders, and the community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communicate and work effectively with other employees, contractors, and customers.
- Undertake installation, modification, and maintenance of rail-related civil infrastructure, including rail, ballast, fastening systems, sleepers, lubrication equipment, earthworks, minor structures, and points and crossings.
- Inspect, measure, and analyse track.
- Safely operate all plant and machinery, including hand tools.
- Read, interpret, and follow instructions in a safe manner.
- Complete documentation related to pre-work briefs, worksite protection plans, environmental analyses, pre-start briefs, and toolbox talks, using a range of technological resources.
- Identify and minimise risks prior to commencing work and implement modifications or contingency plans to eliminate risk.
What we are looking for:
- Current manual driver's licence or ability to obtain.
- Computer literacy skills.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Past or present Rail Industry experience, specifically in track maintenance.
- Current Rail Industry Competencies.
- Track Safety Awareness (One Track) qualifications.
- Construction industry induction (white card).
