Job Title: General Manager, Communications

This exciting opportunity exists for a seasoned professional with expertise in corporate communications to lead the development and execution of Virgin Australia's external and internal communication strategies.

Reporting directly to the Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, you will collaborate closely with the Executive Leadership Team to drive strategic initiatives that enhance the company's reputation and foster a positive image among stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive knowledge of Australia's media landscape and well-established relationships with key players;
  • Proven track record of leveraging communications tools to achieve tangible outcomes aligned with the company's corporate strategy;
  • Ability to innovate and adapt digital channels to meet evolving business needs;
  • Strong leadership skills to inspire and empower a high-performing team;
  • Campaign-like mindset to drive results-oriented approaches;
  • Understanding of emerging technologies, including AI, to support productive work practices;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage stakeholders effectively.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Quality control of all communications materials;
  • Management of Virgin Australia's Value at Play Register (Issues Management);
  • Curation of the company's narrative on key advocacy and reputational issues;
  • Curating and explaining the company story to employees through CEO and executive communications;
  • Oversight of crisis management preparations as they relate to internal and external communications;
  • Design and communication of strategies for monitoring and measuring performance;
  • Support for shaping and communicating community relations endeavors.
