
Materials Engineer for Innovation and Development

Role OverviewAs a key member of the Materials Technology team, you will collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply teams to solve material-related issues and ensure regulatory compliance across the entire lifecycle of products.
You will utilize your technical expertise to find creative solutions, from research to high-volume manufacturing, and turn quality data into actionable insights through robust data analysis.
Your influence will extend to critical materials decisions, effectively communicating findings to all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities:- Materials Characterization, Identification, and Selection: Select and use various instrumentation (FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM/EDS, XRD, XRF, HPLC, Mass Spectrometry) to gather data for actionable insights. Travel within work hours to facilities across the city for equipment utilization.
- Regulatory Substances Compliance: Monitor applicable standards and regulations and coordinate testing when needed. Work with cross-functional teams to ensure material compliance in identified regions.
- Participate in Root Cause and Failure Analysis: Apply tools like Kepner Tregoe to bring critical thought and materials knowledge to Root Cause and Failure Analysis activities.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement efficiency improvements and best practices.
- Work Safety: Uphold Occupational Health & Safety Legislation principles, maintaining a safe workplace.
To excel as a Materials Engineer, you should be proactive, insightful, and willing to take on hands-on tasks. You are a critical thinker, problem solver, and effective communicator with honed influencing skills.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in applied Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
- Honours degree in applied Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience using various chemical, mechanical, rheological, and physical tools
- Expertise in root cause and failure analysis activities
- Extensive knowledge and experience of materials used in sleep apnoea masks and devices; plastics, rubbers, composites, and steel
- Knowledge and experience of high-volume manufacturing processes, particularly injection moulding
- Proven project management experience
