Let's talk about the role :

As a key member of the Materials Technology team, you will collaborate with your teammates and cross-functional teams including design, manufacturing, and supply. Your technical expertise will be crucial in solving material-related issues and supporting regulatory compliance throughout the product lifecycle, from research and development to high-volume manufacturing.

This role requires quick learning, problem-solving at pace, and proficiency in materials testing and data analysis. You will communicate findings effectively across all levels of the organization, from detailed technical reports to executive presentations.

Responsibilities :

  1. Materials Characterization, Identification, and Selection : Use instrumentation such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM/EDS, XRD, XRF, HPLC, and Mass Spectrometry to gather data. Travel within Sydney to utilize analytical equipment at various facilities.
  2. Regulatory Substances Compliance : Monitor standards like REACH, ROHS, California Proposition 65, EU-MDR, and coordinate testing to ensure compliance. Work with cross-functional teams to address environmental regulations and regulatory responses.
  3. Root Cause and Failure Analysis : Apply tools like Kepner Tregoe to conduct thorough analysis, leveraging your materials expertise as a Subject Matter Expert.
  4. Continuous Improvement : Proactively identify opportunities for efficiency and process enhancements.
  5. Work Safety : Uphold Occupational Health & Safety principles to maintain a safe workplace.

About you :

You are proactive, insightful, and hands-on, with strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Influencing skills are essential for success.

  • Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in applied Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Preferred qualifications and experience :

  • Honours degree in Materials Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience with chemical, mechanical, rheological, and physical characterization tools.
  • Expertise in root cause and failure analysis.
  • Knowledge of materials used in sleep apnea devices, including plastics, rubbers, composites, and steel.
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing, especially injection molding.
  • Proven project management skills.
