As a Coal Quality Tester at the Abbot Point Coal terminal in Bowen, Australia, you will be responsible for ensuring that all work is carried out safely and efficiently, adhering to standard operating instructions.

About the Position

This is an excellent opportunity for local people to develop their skills and expertise in coal quality testing. Your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Ensuring all analytical tests, including Total Moisture, are conducted accurately and within specified timeframes.
  • Entering validated results into the reporting system, utilizing your numeracy and literacy skills to produce high-quality reports.
  • A range of physical tests, such as sample preparation, crushing, dividing, and storage, which require manual handling duties and comfort with technology, including spreadsheets.
Requirements and Skills

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A strong focus on safety protocols and adherence to guidelines.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, enabling you to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • A good understanding of computers and technology, including software applications relevant to the role.
  • Comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing priorities.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including 12-hour shifts, day or night.
  • Competence within a strong safety culture, with a focus on minimizing risks and hazards.
