As a Chemical Safety Professional you will be an integral part of our integrated team providing safety capability that enables research and development. You will work alongside other safety specialists, occupational safety professionals, and safety advisors to provide complex advice and assistance on Hazardous Chemical Safety and compliance issues.
Your knowledge and expertise in Chemical Safety will be utilised to oversee the management of onsite Chemical and Fuel Drum stores. You will contribute directly to the provision of a safe working environment for scientists, engineers, and technical experts focused on providing science and technology capability.
Through the delivery of professional and increasingly complex safety advice and assistance to stakeholders, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your passion, commitment, and experience in Chemical Safety. You will be part of the Regional Safety team based at Fishermans Bend in Victoria, with strong linkage across the organisation and into broader Defence.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating and managing Hazardous Chemical storage areas located on site and linked remote sites
- Working as a Hazardous Chemical Safety Advisor, overseeing elements within the Safety Management System supporting research safety, assurance, and compliance
- Consulting with key stakeholders to provide support to staff for Safety Data Sheet (SDS) conversion requests and development of SDSs for research chemicals
- Providing advice on make-safe and recovery actions in response to incidents relating to Hazardous Chemicals, assisting during incident investigations as required
- Offering succession and backfill support to ensure consistent access for staff
- Communicating proactively with colleagues through highlighting safety issues, assisting with safety guidance and assistance requests, sharing knowledge, and influencing positive safety outcomes
