Join a dynamic team as an AI Research Fellow

This is a fixed-term position offering you the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects in measuring, modelling, and evaluating the fairness, bias, search algorithms, and information retrieved and generated by them. This includes interactive information access and retrieval, explainable AI, responsible automated decision-making systems and evaluation, and generative AI and Large Language Models.

The successful candidate will collaborate with experts in the School of Computing Technologies and the Centre for Information Discovery and Data Analytics at RMIT University, as well as the national and international network of participants within the ARC Centre of Excellence. You will have access to research training and professional development opportunities, international visiting fellowships, and exchanges (travel arrangements permitting), and the Centre's network of industry partners.

  • A PhD in Computer Science or a relevant discipline area completed within the past 5 years at the time of appointment.
  • Strong experience in interactive systems, machine learning, deep learning, or data mining.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and/or using state-of-the-art methods, software, and tools in a relevant research context.
  • Solid experience in conducting experiments, such as designing and conducting user studies for evaluation of information access systems, maintaining and contributing to public codebases, performing machine learning experiments, establishing machine learning pipelines, and preparing publications for various audiences.
  • A strong interest in technical and societal problems related to Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, and Ethics (FATE) in AI, particularly in problems related to explainability and fairness.
  • Ability to work independently to generate distinctive contributions to scholarly knowledge and/or create real-world outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a high-achieving and collegial research culture.
