Communications and Engagement Specialist

Job Summary:

This role focuses on developing and implementing strategic communications plans to engage various stakeholders, enhance the university's reputation, and promote its research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Initiate and provide strategic communication recommendations, advice, and support to faculty members, their business units, and schools, as well as the central communications team.
  • Develop and manage targeted communications strategies, including e-communications, newsletters, written content, social media, and print initiatives that strengthen relationships and collaborations with stakeholders, students, and key external audiences.
  • Project manage the delivery of ongoing communications and content strategy, plans, and reporting across digital and engagement channels, supporting the dissemination of timely and engaging stories and content.
  • Identify and triage staff, student, and alum talent; newsworthy research and faculty opportunities to assist the central communications team in targeting news media on areas of strategic priority to enhance the university's reputation, research, and recruitment.
  • Produce, contribute, and edit copy for school, faculty, and university marketing materials, including websites, web articles, newsletters, and magazines.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards and ensure all marketing and communication material and content are accurate and comply with university standards.
  • Ensure high-quality data governance to guarantee all data used in communication activities is up-to-date and complies with university standards, industry best practices, and legal requirements.
Requirements:
  • Degree in marketing or communications, or a relevant discipline, and extensive relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and successfully executing strategic corporate communications for an organization.
  • High-level organizational skills, including the ability to independently prioritize competing work demands and identify and initiate improvements to business practices.
  • Able to write engagingly for target audiences using various mediums, including web, print, social media, and earned media.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills, including the ability to negotiate, provide advice, and liaise with a wide range of individuals.
  • Impeccable grammar, attention to detail, and proven editing experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex organization, manage stakeholder relations, and use sound judgment to act independently and take initiative with minimal direction.
