Job Overview

The Senior Planning Advisor will contribute expertise and strategic insight as a key member of the Corporate Counsel team. This role provides an opportunity to work closely with in-house legal experts and liaise with external partners, developers, and engineers to support community interests and drive effective planning outcomes for our city.

About the Role

This is a senior-level planner position located halfway between Sydney City and the Blue Mountains, offering a unique opportunity to work in a growing and thriving city with a diverse population. Our city is home to 450,000 residents, spread across 54 suburbs, providing a dynamic and multicultural environment with a strong First Nations community and people from over 180 different birthplaces and languages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and assess planning matters to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Prepare critical documents, including those required for court proceedings on behalf of the council.
  • Develop recommendations for process improvements to accommodate internal and external stakeholder needs.
  • Manage and coordinate consultant work to ensure effective appeal defence.
  • Implement processes efficiently using the council's business process management system.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree qualifications in Town Planning or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in planning-related matters.
  • Current class C driver's license.
Desirable Skills and Abilities
  • Superior knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  • High level understanding of New South Wales (NSW) Planning Legislation and related policies.
  • Strong understanding of the NSW Land and Environment Court procedures.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
