Job Title: Senior Planning Appeals Advisor

Job Overview:

The Senior Planning Appeals Advisor will provide expert strategic planning advice to the Corporate Counsel team. This individual will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including developers, engineers, and lawyers, to support community interests and meet smart planning objectives for the city.

Key responsibilities include reviewing Class 1 appeals, gathering data, analyzing plans and DA submissions, preparing statements of facts and contents, attending Section 34 conferences, and supporting lawyers and external firms in the Land and Environment Court.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure planning matters are correctly assessed in relation to compliance with relevant controls.
  • Prepare documents for filing in Court on behalf of Council.
  • Make recommendations on amendments to systems, processes, and workflow to accommodate internal and external stakeholder needs.
  • Manage consultant coordination (e.g., Town Planners, Environmental specialists) to ensure effective appeal defence.
  • Implement processes using Council's business process management system.
  • Consult all stakeholders appropriately.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree qualifications in Town Planning or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in planning-related matters.
  • Current class C driver's license.
Desirable:
  • Superior level of knowledge of applicable legislation/regulations.
  • High-level understanding of New South Wales (NSW) Planning Legislation and related policies.
  • High-level understanding of the processes and procedures of the NSW Land and Environment Court.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
