Neurodevelopmental Research Opportunities in Premature Infants

Clayton South, Victoria, Australia Monash University. Full time

Monash University invites applications for a PhD scholarship focused on neurodevelopmental research in premature infants.

The project aims to utilize multi-channel near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) to assess the functional brain response of infants born preterm. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to clinical follow-up of preterm infants and investigate correlations between neurovascular physiology, neuroimaging, and neurodevelopmental assessments.

About the Opportunity

This PhD program would suit applicants with background/training in clinical neonatology or follow-up of high-risk infants. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary cohort of clinicians and researchers based at Monash Newborn and Department of Paediatrics.

Research Team

The principal supervisor will be Associate Professor Flora Wong, a consultant neonatologist and clinician-scientist with research expertise in neonatal brain development, brain injury, and neuroprotection. Co-supervisors may include Dr Robin Laycock – vision neuroscientist at RMIT University, and other experts depending on the project focus.

What You Will Gain
  • Opportunity to work with leading researchers in neonatal brain development and neuroprotection
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for NIRS and neuroimaging
  • Possibility to collaborate with international researchers in the field
Requirements

Candidates must meet Monash University's minimum requirements for admission to a PhD. To apply, please submit:

  • A cover letter describing your research interests and why you would like to undertake a PhD
  • A CV including qualifications, academic achievements, list of publications, work history, and references
  • A copy of your academic transcript(s)

A competitive salary range of AU$29,000 - AU$35,500 per annum, plus benefits, will be offered to the successful candidate.
