Chief Payroll Specialist

Role Overview
As a key member of the payroll team, you will be responsible for coordinating the end-to-end payroll cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation, enterprise agreements, and university policies. You will proactively review payroll processes and systems, identifying opportunities to streamline, digitise, and improve efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:- Coordinate payroll operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions;
- Review and recommend payroll process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity;
- Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations;
- Provide guidance and support to employees and managers on payroll-related matters;
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive payroll information.
- Essential experience in payroll services, preferably with Ascender Pay;
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience;
- Demonstrated experience delivering payroll services in a complex, regulated environment;
- A strong improvement mindset, with proven experience in reviewing processes, solving problems, and implementing more efficient ways of working;
- Solid knowledge of employment legislation, industrial instruments, and payroll compliance requirements;
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to generate insights and drive smarter decision-making;
- Strong customer focus, accountability, and the confidence to challenge existing practices constructively.
