
Senior Payroll Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Coordinator to join our organization.
This role involves coordinating accurate, compliant, and timely payroll services, ensuring strict adherence to legislative requirements and internal policies.
Main Responsibilities:- Lead the end-to-end fortnightly payroll cycle, including data preparation, system validation, and payment authorisations.
- Ensure compliance with employment legislation, enterprise agreements, Single Touch Payroll (STP), tax, and superannuation obligations.
- Review and resolve payroll anomalies, overpayments, and complex salary packaging scenarios.
- Prepare reconciliations and reports to support audits, finance integration, and statutory obligations.
- Support annual payroll activities, including EA increases, increments, back pays, and award adjustments.
- Drive continuous improvements in payroll systems and processes, collaborating with IT and Business Analysts to resolve system limitations.
- Provide timely and accurate payroll advice to managers, staff, and stakeholders across the institution.
- Maintain documentation, procedures, and controls to ensure audit readiness and service excellence.
- Tertiary qualification with relevant experience OR equivalent expertise through extensive experience and training.
- Proven track record in end-to-end payroll coordination and high volume experience within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements, and HR policies.
- High-level Excel and MS Office skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas, reporting, and analysis).
- Experience with Ascender or another complex system (SAP, Chris21 etc)
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.
- Demonstrated accountability and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Must have full Work Rights and willing to undergo an Australian Police Check
