Role Summary:

You will support our Australian Investment Accounting team as an Executive Financial Reporting Manager and be responsible for monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, and annual financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and tax reporting to a diverse range of investment manager and superannuation fund clients, acting as an escalation point for any client queries.

To achieve this, it is crucial to establish a high level of client knowledge to ensure all requirements are met, allowing the team to build the relationship further. You will also be involved in managing new client onboarding processes related to financial reporting and tax, in collaboration with other teams.

You will report directly to the Manager of Financial Reporting and Tax.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Statement Review and Template Development: Reviewing financial statements and templates to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Proactively seeking to identify and improve current core processes and procedures, ensuring they are updated with changes in regulations and industry trends.
  • Team Development and Training: Delivering training and coaching to junior members of the team to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Working closely with other teams to achieve client reporting objectives – Unit Pricing, Business Process Analysts, Client Services, Operations, and Technology.
  • New Product Developments and Process Improvement Projects: Collaborating with the Financial Reporting and Tax manager on new product developments and process improvement projects.
  • New Client Onboarding: Helping manage new client onboarding processes as they relate to financial reporting and tax.
  • Oversight and Risk Management: Providing oversight of off-shore teams' output and performance, ensuring sufficient risk management controls are in place and adhered to Northern Trust compliance standards.
  • Client Query Resolution: Acting as an escalation point for client queries.
  • Year-End Planning: Organizing and attending year-end planning meetings with clients.

About You:

Essential Qualifications:

  • Extensive Experience: Extensive experience working within a Custodian, Superannuation fund, or Investment Manager accounting/tax team.
  • Technical Knowledge: Technical understanding and practical application of accounting and tax concepts as they relate to Managed Investment Schemes (MIS's) and Superannuation funds.
  • Accounting Standards: Demonstrated high-level understanding of the application of Australian Accounting Standards as they relate to MIS's and Superannuation funds, and the different assets they invest in.
  • Tax Rules: Demonstrated high-level understanding of the application of Australian Tax rules as they relate to MIS's and Superannuation funds, and the different assets they invest in, and an understanding of different trust structures and entity types.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Demonstrated understanding of the application of regulatory reporting requirements – APRA, ABS, BAS, PAYG.
  • Excel Skills: Proficient in Excel.
  • Degree Qualification: Accounting/Commerce/Finance degree qualified ideally with a CA or CPA.
  • Unit Pricing and Registry Concepts: Understanding of unit pricing and unit registry concepts.
  • Client Service Experience: Client service and relationship management experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Team Management Experience: Previous experience in managing a small/medium team.
