The Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes of Deflector and South West deposits.
About the RoleThis critical business role reports directly to the General Manager and is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance with the Site Safety Management System to mitigate risks to the business and personnel.
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) professional who values the flexibility that a smaller company offers for implementing improvements, while also appreciating the support and stability of a financially secure organization that genuinely prioritizes safety.
Main Responsibilities- Maintain optimum output for the OHST & ER team by training, supervising, and promoting effective OHST programs across the operation.
- Prepare the OHS & ER department budget and ensure that the department delivers within it, actively driving a focus on costs.
- Ensure all scheduled OHST & ER activities are conducted and recorded correctly in the OHS management system.
- Liaise with Senior Leadership Team to identify training needs and arrange, facilitate, and coordinate training courses as required.
- Evaluate and maintain the mine rescue capability and functionality on site.
- Approve and manage Emergency Response procedures and preparedness based on risk assessments for foreseeable events, adhering to Vault Minerals standards.
- Monitor and audit compliance with legislation and codes of practice to determine remedial actions.
- Liaise with medical practitioners and providers to facilitate injury management and return-to-work plans.
- Investigate and review incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Support workers' compensation claims through liaison with insurance providers.
- Provide ongoing advice and support in implementing the Vault Minerals Mine Safety Management System.
- Audit and report on site safety systems to evaluate effectiveness and compliance.
- Implement corrective actions identified during auditing.
- Maintain legal compliance with established legislation by revising safety, training, and emergency response processes and documentation.
You will be an experienced OHS professional with a balanced and analytical mindset, committed to improving safety performance and culture. A tertiary qualification in OHS, preferably Certificate IV OHS or higher, is essential. You must have a thorough understanding of WHS Act 2020 and WHS (Mines) Regulations 2022.
