Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced senior leader to lead and manage statewide statutory policy development, ensuring the proper and effective operation of the Mental Health Act 2016 and the protection of consumer rights and victim rights.

  • Lead analysis, development, implementation, and evaluation of contemporary Chief Psychiatrist policies and related tools and resources.
  • Oversight of quality improvement initiatives under the mental health reform agenda.
  • Exercise delegated administrative powers of the Chief Psychiatrist as required.
  • Provide expert advice on complex sensitive and time-critical matters in relation to the Mental Health Act 2016 and other legislation or system-wide policies, procedures, and issues that impact consumer and victim rights.
  • Collaborate and influence across departments, Hospital and Health Services, statewide agencies, and external stakeholders to achieve desired goals and optimize outcomes.

The successful candidate will be a highly developed communication and problem-solving skillset, enabling them to liaise, manage, and negotiate with stakeholders and prepare high-quality, robust, and timely reports, submissions, and formal correspondence.

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the interpretation and requirements of relevant legislation and policy, such as the Mental Health Act 2016, Guardianship and Administration Act 2000, and its complex inter-relationship with government, non-government, and private sectors.
