Job Title: Senior Piggery Stockperson
About the Role:A skilled and experienced Senior Piggery Stockperson is required to supervise our production team. The successful candidate will have strong communication and time management skills, be self-motivated, and able to work independently and as a member of a team.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Supervise site facilities in terms of human resources, physical resources, safety requirements, consumables, documentation, and measurement devices.
- Maintain overall compliance of the Quality Assurance program for the site, ensuring all relevant documentation is kept current.
- Collect and record data to ensure accurate information for stock and inventory control.
- Undertake tasks assigned by management to meet environmental, quality, and safety goals.
- Implement preventable maintenance programs to reduce planned and unplanned downtime.
- Supervise trial sheds, collect and record data according to trial protocols.
- Select breeding stock and/or pigs for sale.
- Supervise daily inspection of livestock, ensuring animals are appropriately fed, watered, and environmental parameters are met.
- Identify compromised animals, treat them accordingly, and record findings in accordance with the Herd Health Plan and industry standards.
- Euthanize sick or injured stock in a humane manner and report findings.
- Conduct post-mortem examinations of deceased stock and report findings.
- Supervise mating of animals via individually supervised mating or Artificial Insemination.
- Supervise the birthing process, including internal assessments of females during parturition to minimize stillbirths.
- Participate in company training sessions and workshops as required.
- AQF Certificate III qualification in Agriculture (Pig Production).
- At least 3 years recent relevant experience in a medium to large commercial piggery.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced knowledge in animal husbandry, animal welfare, and pig production.
- Computer system knowledge is an advantage.
