Leading a commercial cattle breeding and stud Angus operation in the Upper Hunter Region requires a skilled Livestock Manager with expertise in animal husbandry, mustering, and low-stress stock handling techniques.

The Job Description

This role involves overseeing livestock operations on a large scale, focusing on cattle management. The successful candidate will assist in managing over 5,000Ha of land, ensuring the welfare of livestock, and communicating effectively with management regarding water and feed requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in all aspects of livestock husbandry including drenching, mustering, calf marking, feeding, and other cattle handling procedures.
  • Ensure the well-being of livestock by maintaining high standards of OH&S and adhering to best practices in low-stress stock handling.
  • Participate actively in mustering using side-by-sides and horses when required.
  • Monitor and report on fences and yards requiring repair and equipment or machinery needing maintenance to management.
  • Assist in loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Repair and maintain water systems.
  • Operate plant and equipment efficiently and competently.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in cattle handling.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised and show initiative.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with management and colleagues.
  • Working dogs and horse skills are essential for this role.
