Infection Control Specialist Role

This position plays a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategies aimed at preventing infections within our healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, coupled with clinical expertise, to ensure effective infection control practices are upheld throughout the organisation.

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control Programme
  • Provide regular education and updates to clinical staff and medical officers on best practices in infection control
  • Coordinate the Infection Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees, driving consensus and informed decision-making
  • Maintain accurate records of data collection, surveillance, and reporting to relevant health authorities
  • Respond promptly to infectious outbreaks, offering expert guidance and support as needed
  • Audit compliance with established infection control standards, recommending improvements where necessary
  • Ensure staff vaccination records are up-to-date, administering vaccinations as required
  • Deliver comprehensive infection control training, integrating it into staff orientation processes
  • Serve as a key resource and subject matter expert in infection prevention and control, fostering collaborative relationships with department managers and the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Coordinator
  • Collaborate closely with department managers to monitor KPIs, develop policies, conduct audits, and provide staff training and development
  • Pursue opportunities for engagement with external regional Infection Prevention and Control Committees, contributing to broader public health initiatives and staying abreast of emerging best practices

Requirements:

  • Holding current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • Minimum four years of clinical nursing experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in infection control
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with an ability to build effective relationships across departments
  • Proficiency in report writing, data analysis, and auditing
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, set clear objectives, and develop actionable plans to meet organisational performance goals
  • Familiarity with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards
  • Immunisation Certificate (or working towards)
  • Post Graduate Infection Prevention and Control qualification (or working towards)
