Aboriginal Relations Specialist – Closing the Gap

As an Indigenous Liaison Officer, you will play a vital role in building strong, trusted relationships with government, communities, organisations, and stakeholders to achieve outcomes for First Nations people. The role involves providing cultural intelligence and support to staff and senior executives on matters affecting First Nations people, relevant to the work of DEWR. You will also be responsible for showing initiative and providing targeted on-the-ground support and management for various programs delivered by DEWR.
You will participate in the DEWR Community of Practice on Closing the Gap, representing Queensland State Office and sharing information on the work being done to support First Nations peoples into employment, education, and training. You will lead and contribute to Queensland State Office Closing the Gap initiatives, bringing together staff, providers, and key stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes for First Nations peoples.
Developing a directory of First Nations key stakeholders across Queensland is another critical aspect of this role. You will understand the dispersed caseload and demographic characteristics across Queensland to target activity to most need. You will also identify opportunities to collaborate with service providers, supporting and promoting local place-based activity that enhances the experience and impact of First Nations people in employment and skills programs.
To succeed in this role, you will have a demonstrated ability to work with First Nations communities and organisations, as well as proficiency in Microsoft programs. A driver's licence is essential, and year 12 or equivalent certification is desired but not essential. Your willingness to build a strong knowledge of Queensland regions and employment and skills programs is also crucial.
