Moneycare Program Overview



Moneycare is our national financial counselling and financial capability program. It is one of the largest and long-running such programs in Australia. Our holistic, strengths-based services are professional, caring, and missional.

Financial Counsellor Role Description

We are seeking a values-driven and dedicated Financial Counsellor to provide financial counselling for people who are in financial difficulty or hardship, or are wishing to avoid such situations. As a Financial Counsellor you will facilitate and implement community member centred case plans and develop options that alleviate financial hardship, develop financial resilience, improve mental health and improve personal wellbeing. Within this role you will also provide mentorship to Financial Capability Worker(s).

Your Key Responsibilities


  • Establish effective relationships with community members that encourage self-determination and participation
  • Bring a community member centred, holistic approach focusing on relational, missional and professional ethos in all case work
  • Maintain ongoing assessment of community member issues, needs and circumstances from initial contact to exit
  • Develop individual casework plans in collaboration with community members, including a range of interventions addressing their needs or goals
  • Assist community members to access support services and establish community supports, and where needed assist through advocacy with service providers and other external parties
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and data for all community members according to The Salvation Army standards and procedures using SAMIS
  • Foster a continuous quality improvement culture, including client feedback evident through individual contribution and participation to the team, work performed and review processes
  • Prioritise self-care and participate in ongoing professional development and supervision


Your Requirements


  • Hold a Diploma of Financial Counselling and be an accredited member of a state-based recognised financial counselling association (Level 5)
  • Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language
  • Knowledge of local Aboriginal Communities and Culture
  • Demonstrated ability to work with different cultures and backgrounds
  • National Police Record Check required
  • Relevant State Working With Children Check required
  • Current Driver’s Licence (if travel required)


Somewhat frequent intrastate travel associated with outreach services may be required.

Estimated annual salary: $65,000 - $80,000 AUD, depending on experience.
