Job Overview

We are seeking a Marine Conservation Specialist to lead our efforts in protecting the marine environment of Moreton Bay Marine Park.

This is a hands-on, impactful role in marine conservation where you will manage day-to-day park operations, including marine animal rescue, maintaining marine assets, monitoring natural values such as seagrass, turtles, and sharks, enforcing compliance zones and handling emergency responses.

You will regularly work on commercial vessels as master or crew and be involved in diving operations. Strong communication skills are essential for engaging the public and promoting marine park values through education and presentations.

This opportunity is part of the Great Basin and Marine Parks Region's coordination efforts in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and across associated marine parks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate work teams to deliver projects, manage resources and maintain park infrastructure.
  • Handle customer service, education, compliance enforcement, and assist in investigations related to park regulations.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for natural disasters, search and rescue and medical emergencies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, and promote an inclusive workplace culture.
Requirements
  • An automatic/unrestricted manual driver's license.
  • Formal qualifications in environmental management or marine biology would be highly regarded.
  • Coxswain's and/or dive qualifications would be highly regarded.
