
Principal Conservation Officer

Success in this role will require collaboration within DESI and with First Nations partners, scientific experts, other agencies and the broader community. Experience of best practice approaches to monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement (MERI) and experience in developing and/or implementing management effectiveness evaluation programs for protected areas, particularly marine protected areas will help you succeed in this role. Knowledge of legislation relevant to the management of Queensland's marine parks, including the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Fisheries Act 1994, and Marine Parks Act 2004 would also be an advantage. Your ability to analyse and interpret complex biophysical and socio-economic scientific information and data would be highly regarded.
**This position requires**:
- Demonstrated knowledge of marine conservation and / or monitoring, evaluation, reporting and improvement principles, practices, policies, standards, and legislation.
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
- Demonstrated project and / or program management skills.
- Demonstrated strong communication (written and verbal) liaison and negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
- Contribution to workplace equity and diversity that enriches our culture of safety, innovation, respect and inclusion.
