Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Judicial Registrar plays a crucial role within the court's commercial division.

  • Hear and determine interlocutory applications in a fair and timely manner.
  • Conduct judicial resolution conferences, trial assessments, and directions hearings to ensure efficient case management.
  • Manage the self-represented litigants' program to provide support and guidance to individuals representing themselves in court.
  • Making procedural orders, including orders by consent, to facilitate the smooth operation of court proceedings.

The appointee will assist with procedural reform and work collaboratively with the Commercial Registry to ensure its systems of work are efficient and effective. This requires a legally qualified individual (admitted for not less than five years) who has extensive experience in the practice of commercial law as well as an in-depth understanding of court processes and procedures.

A key requirement is superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to make timely decisions according to law.

This full-time position is based in Melbourne, and while it is full-time, appointments on a part-time or work-share basis will be considered.
