Job Description

The primary objective of this role is to oversee the strategic direction of acquisition projects, ensuring effective planning, coordination, and execution throughout the project lifecycle.

As an Acquisition Project Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive project plans, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and managing stakeholder expectations.

  • Plan, develop, coordinate and support capability enhancements throughout the project management lifecycle from user requirements/statements of work (UR/SOW) to approved designs for integration on platforms and transition.
  • Manage individual schedules to ensure effective completion of all scheduled tasks and activities, including complex procurements and industry engagements, and work with the Scheduler to incorporate changes to the master schedule where required.
  • Represent the Client, as required, and contribute to internal and external stakeholder groups on assigned projects and wider integration-related matters.
  • Work with the Engineering and Integrated Logistics Management (ILS) teams to ensure that all project-related documentation and requirements are delivered in line with extant standards, agreements and timeframes.
  • Participate and share integration expertise to contribute to planning for future work take-on, particularly in relation to resourcing, technical aspects, commercial arrangements, schedule development and risk.
  • Provide advice to stakeholders including the capability manager, contractors, FIC stakeholders and boards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 7–10 years' experience in Project support or Project management roles within the Defence sector, with demonstrable experience during the Acquisition Phase or Transition to Support Phase.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or relevant industry and/or domain work experience.
  • Current and relevant commercial and/or project management experience within Defence or a military environment.
  • Experience in the delivery commercial advisory services to Defence.
  • Experience in logistically and commercially complex projects in the Defence environment.
  • Hands-on experience working with and interpreting ASDEFCON contracting suites (Complex Materiel, Support, or Shortform).
  • Proven capability to lead and manage teams and interface with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong understanding of Capability Life Cycle (CLC) and Defence procurement practices.
  • Experience managing external contractors and suppliers for support system deliverables.
  • Experience in the Land C4 environment and delivery of integrated solutions to Land platforms.
  • Understanding of the content of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and its application in the Defence project management environment.
  • Understanding of ODCS and FIC.
  • Already have or ability to obtain a Negative Vetting 1 Security Clearance.
  • Experience working with Defence Prime contractors on deliverables-based contracts.
  • Detailed procurement methodology and contracting experience with both Government and private organisations–including direct experience with procurement activities and designing contracts.
  • Understanding of the content of the Defence Procurement Policy Manual (DPPM), and related guidance, and the ASDEFCON suite of tendering and contracting templates.
  • Liability risk analysis experience preferably with both Government and private organisations.
