Job Description:

The Legal Advice and Strategy Team provides expert legal advice to the government on the interpretation and development of relevant legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and other public sector related laws.

The team also provides legal advice and support for corporate and commercial matters, including procurement, and assists in supporting client relationships.

Role Overview

As a Legal Adviser, you will assist in developing client-focused legal advice and support to staff on legal and policy matters under supervision.

You will manage risk effectively, manage your workload consistently with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, and adhere to internal procedures.

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience:

  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
  • Current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.

Eligibility and Specific Conditions of Employment:

  • Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check).
  • Employee Health Declaration.
  • Six months probationary period for new engagements.
