Indigenous Family Liaison Officer

We are seeking an Indigenous Family Liaison Officer to join our team at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. As an ILO, you will play a critical role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families throughout the Court process.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander litigants, including explaining Court procedures and their obligations.
- Connect litigants to community support and legal services, where appropriate.
- Support litigants through the Court pathway, from filing documents to Court events, such as hearings and child interviews.
- Educate the community about the ILO role and the objectives of the Courts to create greater access to family court services.
- Build relationships with judges and other Court officers, explaining the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to the Court.
- Good listening skills and ability to use everyday language to explain formal processes.
- Empathy towards others who are experiencing challenging and potentially distressing moments in their lives.
- Good links with local communities and ability to build on those links.
