Role Overview

The Australian Government Graduate Program - Economist Stream offers a unique opportunity to work with leading government economic policy analysts and forecasters.

  • As an economist graduate, you will conduct research, analyse data, and provide economic policy advice to inform decision-making processes within government departments and agencies.

This role provides a range of opportunities to contribute to government policy issues, including advising on important economic and social topics, predicting and planning for changes in the economy, developing recommendations, policies and plans, and contributing to fiscal, monetary, social, industry and environmental policies.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct research and analysis to support economic policy development and advice.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders and community groups.
  3. Provide strategic advice to senior government officials on economic policy matters.
  4. Work collaboratively with other government agencies and external partners to achieve shared goals and objectives.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in economics or econometrics, or any bachelor's degree with a major or minor in economics or econometrics.
  • Relevant work experience in economics or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

While most economist graduate positions are in Canberra, there may be opportunities for placement in other capital cities across Australia.
