**Job Title:** Microbiological Extraction of Rare Earth Elements

This PhD position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in sustainable mining and resource recovery.

The primary focus of this project is the development of microbiological processes for extracting rare earth elements from both primary ores and secondary sources such as electronic waste and mine tailings.

Rare earth elements are indispensable for manufacturing wind turbines, electric vehicles, smartphones, and other high-tech devices. However, their extraction through traditional methods poses severe environmental risks, including habitat destruction, water pollution, and high carbon emissions.

By leveraging the natural abilities of microbes to extract and recover REEs, this research aims to develop sustainable, eco-friendly mining practices that minimize environmental impacts and ensure a stable supply of critical materials for the green economy.

**Requirements:

  • A strong academic background in chemical or biological engineering, microbiology, or a related discipline
  • Practical experience in microbial culturing
  • Hands-on skills in recombinant DNA techniques (such as cloning, transformation, and plasmid construction) are preferred
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to conduct independent research
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
