The Practice Development Nurse will be responsible for designing and delivering education, training and professional development for clinicians and practitioners working within the Medically Supervised Injecting Room (MSIR). This includes understanding training and education requirements and rolling out programs that support clinically safe and effective program delivery.

The successful candidate will work closely with MSIR Senior Leadership to ensure high-quality clinical and harm reduction services are delivered. This role is a key part of our commitment to reducing overdose deaths and non-fatal overdose-related harms, reducing ambulance attendances and emergency department presentations related to overdose, and assisting in reducing the spread of blood-borne diseases including HIV and hepatitis C.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver education, training and professional development for clinicians and practitioners working within the MSIR
  • Work closely with MSIR Senior Leadership to understand training and education requirements
  • Roll out programs that support clinically safe and effective program delivery
  • Deliver enhanced Basic Life Support training to all staff within the MSIR, and Advanced Life Support to identified staff
  • Deliver training in overdose awareness and management
  • Coordinate mandatory training for all staff within the MSIR
  • Coordinate education sessions within the MSIR
Requirements
  • CURRENT NURSING REGISTRATION WITH THE NURSING & MIDWIFERY BOARD OF AUSTRALIA VIA AHPRA
  • DEGREE IN GENERAL NURSING WHICH MEETS THE REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS OF THE NURSING AND MIDWIFERY BOARD OF AUSTRALIA
  • POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS IN RELEVANT NURSING SPECIALITY
  • POSTGRADUATE QUALIFICATION IN EDUCATION, CLINICAL SUPERVISION OR SIMILAR (OR WORKING TOWARDS)
  • MULTIPLE YEARS EXPERIENCE IN CRITICAL CARE NURSING
  • PROFICIENT IN BASIC LIFE SUPPORT AND ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT, AND POSSESSION OF A RELEVANT, CURRENT QUALIFICATION
