The Child Inpatient Unit is part of Austin Health's Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health Service (ICYMHS) in the Mental Health Division. It services children from metropolitan and regional areas of Victoria. The Unit has 12 beds and is based at the Austin Hospital. We admit children aged 12 and under for assessment and treatment. Children are often admitted with their parent/carer and/or further family.

These children may experience emotional, behavioural and/or social difficulties and have received outpatient treatment. A high proportion of the children on the Unit are admitted for several weeks, utilizing weekend leave. However, we also admit children under crisis circumstances for short periods.

This role requires an experienced clinician who will nurse in accordance with Recovery Oriented Practice, Trauma Informed Care, and the Safewards Model. You will communicate using recovery language, promoting hope, fostering self-determination, strengths and goals. As a clinical leader, you will work closely with the Nurse Unit Manager, medical and allied health leads to ensure quality psychiatric nursing through effective staff management and clinical leadership.
