Career Opportunity: Food Compliance Specialist

At our organization, we are seeking a highly skilled Food Compliance Specialist to join our Buying team. This role offers a unique chance to develop a career in compliance and regulatory work.

**Job Description:**

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with assessment and review of imported food products against all pertinent regulations. This includes ensuring compliance with Australian and New Zealand Laws (e.g., Food Standards Code, Australian Competition Law, Australian Consumer Law, Trade Measurement regulations, Customs Act, Intellectual Property etc.).

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Assist in determining the import requirement procedures for a cross-section of food items
  • Review the import item packaging and labelling process for artwork and/or label development
  • Develop in-house labelling for 'fresh' food areas
  • Liaise with key internal Buying and external stakeholder groups to ensure imported items meet all regulatory obligations
  • Monitor the uptake and maintenance of compliance programs and associated documentation
  • Coordinate product reviews, assess quality, and benchmarking exercises
  • Provide support to the compliance team for the investigation of product incidents
  • Actively manage Costco's Food Vendor Assurance Program
  • Assist in updating Private Label Product development

**Requirements:**

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A degree in Food Science/Technology, Applied Science or a like discipline
  • 1+ years' experience in a regulatory, compliance or associated area in either retail, government or manufacturing desirable
  • Understanding of the Australian labelling requirements according to the regulatory landscape (State, Federal and Local eg. ACCC, Food Standards Code, Australian Competition Law, Australian Consumer Law, Trade Measurement Regulations, Customs Act, Quarantine Act, Fair Trading Laws, Australian Standards etc.)
  • Understanding of Australian import requirements (including the use of associated tools)

This role requires a subject to a satisfactory criminal check and may include additional training within specified timeframes.
