Job Description:

Operandi Consulting seeks a seasoned Software Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary squad in delivering high-quality software solutions. This role offers a unique opportunity for career advancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect and code-review to guide design of clean Architecture .NET 9 microservices, Next.js front-end, and Postgres data layer on AWS
  • Lead and mentor team members to set coding standards, provide actionable feedback, and develop their careers
  • Own sprint delivery by running Agile ceremonies, maintaining the board in Jira, and hitting production releases every 14 days
  • Maintain architectural boundaries to enforce Clean Architecture separation of concerns and ensure domain logic is isolated from infrastructure and User Interface
  • Raise the bar on quality by championing CI/CD, test automation, and observability, making 'green build' the default
  • Plan capacity and roadmap to align team velocity with business priorities, flag risks early, and keep stakeholders informed
  • Optimise cloud performance by owning AWS best practices, IaC, and secure deployments while minimising cost and ensuring great execution
  • Continuously improve process by refining metrics, agile ceremonies, and documentation to achieve better outcomes every sprint

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 5-7+ years of experience as a professional hands-on software engineer, plus 2-3+ years of proven experience leading engineering or software development teams
  • A proven record of shipping production releases every 2 weeks, with expertise in getting it right on every release
  • Deep expertise in .NET 9, Next.js/React, PostgreSQL (or comparable databases like MySQL or SQL Server) on AWS (ECS/Fargate, RDS, IaC)
  • Hands-on experience building systems with Clean Architecture and demonstrating how you implemented this with your team
  • Mastery of Jira, Agile/Scrum, and metrics-driven delivery
  • Exceptional organisational skills and commitment to action
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Benefits:

Candidates must be eligible to work in Australia and be able to work in Sydney CBD for 2-3 days each week.

Other Requirements:

Desirable qualifications include experience in Fintech/Insurtech/Superannuation/Financial Services or other regulated environments, exposure to gRPC, REST, and event-driven architectures, familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (via CDK), and experience using AI models to increase code output and quality.
