About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Legal Service as a Legal Practitioner, specializing in Criminal Law.

As a Legal Practitioner, you will be working with a team of professionals to provide high-quality legal services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients throughout Queensland.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice and information to clients and external stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Legal Officer, Director of Law, and immediate legal team.
  • Ensure exemplary case management standards and provide high-level client services.

Selection Criteria:

Essential Criteria
  • Values: Alignment to the values and vision of ATSILS, with an appreciation of the challenges faced by clients.
  • Qualifications: Admission as a Legal Practitioner in Queensland or immediate eligibility for a Practising Certificate.
  • Client Service and Data Management: Capacity to provide high-level client services and ensure exemplary case management standards.
  • Core Legal Duties: Proven high level of professional service in Criminal Law, including adult and youth jurisdictions.
  • Confidence in Legislation: In-depth knowledge of the Youth Justice Act 1992 and the Criminal Code 1899.
  • Access, Teamwork, and Communication: Preparedness to work after hours, willingness to assist in training, and sound interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office in a Windows networked environment.
  • Mobility, Access, and Safety: Current Queensland Driver Licence and willingness to travel, with a willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check.
