The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Climate Change and Sustainability Specialist to join our Environmental Sustainability team. Your primary focus will be leading our response to the climate emergency, in alignment with our Climate Emergency Strategy and Action Plan. In this role, you will develop and implement environmental sustainability initiatives and projects that contribute to our policy and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice to the Coordinator Environmental Sustainability to ensure the achievement of Council Plan environmental targets and objectives.
  • Conduct research and analysis to deliver timely and informed advice on emerging trends, opportunities, policy, practice, innovation, and technology in relevant areas of environmental sustainability.
  • Lead the delivery of Environmental Sustainability strategies, policy, and plans, projects, and programs.
  • Collaborate with regional partners and other stakeholders to progress our community's efforts on environmental issues.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Environmental Social Science, Environmental Management, or a related field, with a minimum of three years' experience in environment, sustainability, and project management roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a climate emergency-focused role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation for this position.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, influence, work collaboratively, and develop partnerships.
  • A valid Working with Children Check.
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
  • You must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or hold a permanent resident status.
