Job Overview

The Network Control Officer plays a pivotal role in the smooth operation of rail networks, responsible for managing day-to-day train movements. Effective communication with rail crews and other stakeholders is essential to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Utilise network control equipment to authorise train movements and prepare authorities for track work requirements.
  • Monitor and record train locations and progress.
  • Respond to emergencies and irregularities, providing timely and accurate reports.
  • Ensure adherence to safe working practices, codes of practice, procedures, and processes.
  • Plan anticipated running of trains and track work to avoid conflicts.
  • Issue instructions to rail crews and staff at line locations, ensuring events are correctly performed and reported.
  • Process ad-hoc train paths from operators within the shift span.
  • Assist track and other staff in reaching work destinations promptly.
  • Provide comprehensive briefings to relieving Network Controllers at the end of each shift.
Requirements
  • Cert IV in Rail Operations or ability to attain within a set timeframe.
  • Current driving license.
  • Qualified in safeworking rules and procedures or ability to attain within a set timeframe.
