Job Title: Family Support Specialist

About the Role:

As a family support specialist, you will work with children and their families to address risk factors that may be impacting their lives. You will help them build resilience to overcome life's difficulties through various workshops, groups, and community awareness sessions.

The role involves working from a child-centered approach, recognizing, respecting, and understanding each family's point of view and preferences for their wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offering comprehensive assessments with families and undertaking risk assessment/safety planning
  • Providing social and emotional wellbeing programs for children and young people
  • Developing supports to address risk factors impacting children's lives
  • Working collaboratively with other professionals to ensure optimal outcomes for children and families

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A degree qualified in social work, human services, psychology, or similar field
  • At least 12 months' experience in the Community Services Sector in Early Intervention, Child Protection, or Mental Health
  • Experience of undertaking comprehensive assessments with families and risk assessment/safety planning
  • Child centered & strengths based approach to working with children and families in a mental health context
  • Clear understanding of child protection issues and mandatory reporting responsibilities
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the needs of diverse communities such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD), and LGBTIQA+ communities
