Support Advocate Job

We are seeking a Support Advocate to work collaboratively with our team to provide effective support services and training to families and carers of people with mental illness.

The ideal candidate will have lived experience of mental health challenges, as a carer or personal recovery, and be able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

About the Role
  • Provide education and strategies for decision-making, self-advocacy, self-management, and wellness skills using personal lived experience.
  • Build supportive relationships and client groups based on the One Door Lived Experience Framework and Peer Support Values.
  • Undertake or review risk assessments to ensure supports are delivered safely.
  • Maintain an engaging working partnership with Local Health District partners.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Empower individuals to achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.
  2. Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including families and carers.
  3. Develop and deliver purposeful programs for carers that include information, advocacy, individual and group supports.
  4. Ensure families and carers have access to appropriate information and flexible options for support at all points within their caring journey.
