About the Opportunity

Mercy Health Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Sustainability Manager to join our Strategy, Planning and Sustainability team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing and reporting on the Caring for People and Planet strategy, which aims to provide the best possible care, improve health outcomes, and protect the environment.

The role will involve leading and managing key projects related to the execution of the Caring for People and Planet Action Plan, providing advice on climate initiatives, and representing the organization internally and externally.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental management, sustainability leadership, and project management, with experience in working with stakeholders to drive organizational change.

The Environmental Sustainability Manager will be responsible for:

  • Implementing and reporting on the Caring for People and Planet strategy and associated Action Plan.
  • Leading and managing key projects related to the execution of the Caring for People and Planet Action Plan.
  • Providing advice on climate initiatives and representing the organization internally and externally.
  • Ensuring communication of the Caring for People and Planet strategy across all areas of Mercy Health Australia.
  • Providing leadership and expertise across Caring for People and Planet domains.
  • Championing sustainability within Mercy Health Australia.
  • Partnering with internal stakeholders to integrate sustainability practices and environmental leadership in Health Services and Healthy Ageing.
  • Developing action plans to drive carbon reduction in trajectory plans.
  • Developing and delivering communication and engagement activities to raise awareness of Mercy Health Australia's sustainability initiatives and progress.
What You'll Bring

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in environmental management or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sustainability leadership in healthcare and/or aged care.
  • Project management experience, preferably related to large-scale organizational change with environmental sustainability initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in working productively with stakeholders and maintaining collaborative and cooperative relationships.
  • Demonstrated expertise in climate change, sustainable models of care, and justice and equity programs in the context of sustainable healthcare and aged care.
  • Highly developed carbon literacy and numeracy and associated technical skills.
  • Experience in successful business case development, including the use of research and data analysis to provide compelling justification for proposals.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to adapt and problem-solve.
  • The ability to nurture friendly, respectful relationships and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Desirable Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable:

  • Project management experience in various methodologies.
  • Experience in developing carbon reduction strategies and climate adaptation plans.
  • Strong presentation and information-sharing skills.
  • Health professional background, and/or experience in healthcare or aged care, or engineering qualifications.
