About the ProgramNTCOSS's Financial Counsellors provide free, confidential, non-judgmental assistance for individuals and families to sort out money worries, explore options, and plan for the future. NTCOSS also provides short courses to assist participants in building money management skills.
About the OpportunityAs the Financial Counsellor / Financial Capability Worker, you will be committed to building people's capacity to improve their financial wellbeing by providing financial counselling, financial literacy, problem gambling amelioration, micro finance, and emergency relief assistance to members of the community experiencing or at risk of financial hardship. You will work with participants to assess eligibility and needs, address individual and family worries, provide information and supported referrals to services, and deliver community education sessions.
Key Responsibilities- Provide financial counselling and financial literacy services to individuals and families.
- Assess eligibility and needs of participants, and provide information and supported referrals to services.
- Deliver community education sessions on financial management and money skills.
- Work with participants to develop plans to improve their financial wellbeing.
- Collaborate with other services and agencies to provide comprehensive support to participants.
- Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling) or equivalent qualification.
- Registration with an affiliated professional body or willingness and ability to complete the core qualification within 12 months.
- Prior experience working as a Financial Counsellor or in the human services sector in casework/advocacy/finance or banking.
- Empathy, non-judgmental attitude, solutions-focused approach, and cultural responsiveness.
- Experience in facilitating and/or co-delivering small groups, community education sessions, and/or short courses in financial literacy and/or life skills.
- Experience working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture.
