Parliamentary Workplace Standards and Integrity Commissioner

This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a new entity and play a key role in setting the highest standards across the Victorian Parliament.

  1. About the Role:
    The Chair will provide strong strategic direction, and take responsibility for the establishment, management, operations, governance and performance of the Commission. They must have a proven track record of building solid and enduring relationships, and inspiring trust and confidence among diverse stakeholder groups.
  2. Key Responsibilities:
    The Chair will also act as the CEO of the Commission. This includes driving formal investigations and recommending or imposing sanctions for misconduct. The Chair will be responsible for establishing and managing the Commission's operations, governance and performance.
  3. Requirements:
    A person will not be eligible for appointment as Commissioner if they are or have been at any time in the last 10 years, a member of a registered political party, a member of Parliament in Victoria or within another jurisdiction (Commonwealth or any other state or territory) or a member of a local council across Australia. Commissioners will also need to have the unanimous support of the Integrity and Oversight Committee of the Victorian Parliament before they can be appointed.

Desirable Qualifications:
Commissioners will also need to have skills, knowledge or experience in one or more of: government, community affairs, industrial relations, law, the dynamics of sexual assault and other gender-based violence, public sector governance or administration, ethics and integrity. At least one Commissioner is also required to have a strong understanding of or experience in an Australian parliamentary workplace.

Work Environment:
The Commission will provide parliamentarians, their staff and the public with an avenue to take and resolve grievances about any current or former member of the Victorian Parliament, including Ministers. It will also provide a foundation for a safe and respectful parliamentary workplace.
