Job Overview

The Law Society of New South Wales is seeking an exceptional Senior Policy and Practice Executive to lead its policy and practice department on a full-time permanent basis.

This role forms part of the Senior Management Group and will be responsible for leading key policy projects and campaigns, providing advice to the Chief Executive Officer on legal policy issues, and managing the performance and development of direct reports.

About the Role

  • Lead the Policy and Practice Department in researching and advising on issues relating to legal practice, policy, and law reform.
  • Manage the operations of the Access to Justice Department, which supports the Law Society's mission to provide referral, information, and legal assistance services to the community and solicitors in NSW.
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to enhance access to justice for the public.
  • Provide high-level legal policy advice to the Chief Executive Officer, President, and Council.
  • Manage budget expenditure and make informed decisions about resource allocation.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About You

  • Must be eligible to hold a NSW practicing certificate.
  • Extensive experience in legal policy at a senior level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write reports, recommendations, briefing papers, and speeches in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven management and leadership abilities, with experience in effective management of resources to meet objectives and competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to adopt a strategic approach to problem-solving and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

What We Offer

  • An estimated annual salary of $145,000 - $180,000, depending on experience.
