The Role of a Careers Adviser

At the heart of this position is providing high-quality career guidance services to students, graduates, and employers. By delivering expert advice and support, you will play a vital role in helping individuals achieve their educational and developmental goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalized careers appointments to support students in making informed decisions about their future;
  • Develop and deliver workshops, events, and online resources that promote career development learning and employability skills;
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to create opportunities for students and graduates;
  • Collaborate with student groups and clubs to co-create professional development initiatives; and
  • Contribute to a positive workplace culture that supports wellbeing and success for all.

About You:

You are a skilled communicator and experienced careers practitioner passionate about empowering students to make informed career choices. Your interpersonal strengths enable you to build rapport with diverse student cohorts and work effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Requirements:

  • A relevant degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing career guidance in a higher education setting would be advantageous;
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Career Development Learning principles in individual guidance, resource development, and workshop delivery;
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of the diverse experiences of students, with the ability to incorporate labour market insights into career conversations;
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams using a case-managed approach to support student wellbeing and success;
  • A high level of administration skills with the ability to adapt quickly to new systems; and
  • Eligibility for or progress towards a CICA-endorsed qualification or professional association membership.
