About the Role:

  • This position provides support and assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families, and Communities across all facilities in West Moreton Health.
  • The purpose of this role is to provide direct support and assistance to both Clinicians within the Mental Health and Specialised Services Division and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander in-patients, families, and Communities.
  • The position is responsible for improving the delivery of culturally appropriate Mental Health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients.

The aim of the role is to achieve improved mental health outcomes for First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, as per the objectives of the West Moreton Health First Nations Health Equity Strategy.

This role supports healthcare workers in delivering culturally safe care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples (including patients, carers, and communities) within a health-related context.
  • Sensitively communicating with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds while advocating on behalf of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Preparing complex reports and responding directly to concerns of patients, carers, and family members.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Vaccinated against certain vaccine-preventable diseases.
  • Being Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community is a genuine occupational requirement.
