Job Opportunity

We are seeking experienced professionals to fill the role of Senior Legal Officer at our organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare complex matters referred to prosecution, including appeal submissions, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders effectively, including defence counsel, solicitors, police officers, victims and witnesses.
  • Represent the organization as an advocate to prosecute or defend appeals in the District Court, sentences in the Magistrates and/or higher courts, and represent the Director at bail applications, mentions and call overs in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.
  • Liaise with complainants and relatives in prosecutions, especially in relation to matters involving sexual and violent offences.
  • Supervise, motivate and lead legal officers and legal support staff in the delivery of legal services.

The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate:

  • The ability to apply legal principles, draft legal documents and provide legal advice as a litigation solicitor, and work effectively as an advocate in the Magistrates and/or higher courts.
  • The ability to apply well-developed interpersonal and communication skills to liaise, consult and negotiate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to supervise, train and mentor legal and support staff to achieve outcomes and demonstrates an ability to identify and address the needs of victims of crime in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive way.
  • The ability to maintain a high standard of professional competence and ethical behaviour.
