Senior Lawyer Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to fill the position of Senior Lawyer within our organization.

This critical role requires a trauma-informed approach to working with clients and a commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.

  • Candidates should have expertise in criminal law, including court procedures, evidence, and ethical advocacy.
  • A strong understanding of stakeholder engagement skills is essential, as well as the ability to handle complex clients with empathy and professionalism.
  • The successful candidate will be proficient in mentoring and team leadership, with a vision for continuous learning and development.
  • A commitment to leveraging governance and risk management to deliver high standards of practice is also required.

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Hold or be eligible for immediate admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland (current practising certificate required).
  • Eligible for a current practicing certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
  • This role is not suitable for early-career lawyers.
  • Candidates must disclose conflicts of interest and undergo criminal and disciplinary history checks.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Lawyer will be responsible for providing expert legal representation and advocacy for legally aided clients, ranging from Magistrates and Children's Court matters to higher court appearances.

Additionally, the Senior Lawyer will assist in preparing and presenting cases, instructing counsel, and supervising legal work. They will also play a critical part in mentoring and developing staff, engaging key stakeholders, and contributing to policy, procedure, and legal service improvements within Queensland's justice system.
