Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Bioinformatics Research Analyst to join our research team at UNSW Australia.

About the Role

This is a 2-year fixed-term position, working full-time (35 hours per week) with a salary range of $123,000 - $138,000 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading.

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to bioinformatics and statistical analysis using population-scale whole genome/transcriptomics datasets. A strong publication record, experience in managing multiple collaborations, and excellent communication skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex data analysis and interpretation using open-source libraries such as GATK and Hail.
  • Develop and implement new bioinformatics tools and pipelines.
  • Collaborate with researchers and students to design and execute experiments.
  • Train and mentor research staff and students on bioinformatics techniques.
  • Draft ethics applications and accurate reports to research panels.

Requirements

  • A degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in population genomics and whole-genome analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Bash, R, or other scripting languages.
  • Experience with high-performance computing, containerisation, and source code management.
