Lead Bioinformatics Research Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Bioinformatics Research Scientist to join our research team at UNSW Australia. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer through patient-centred discovery programs.
About the Role:
This 2-year fixed-term position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge bioinformatics research and development. You will be responsible for leading and contributing to bioinformatics and statistical analysis, with a primary focus on statistical fine-mapping and functional bioinformatics to discover novel genetic variants. Your expertise in analyzing population-scale whole genome/transcriptomics datasets using open-source libraries such as GATK and Hail will be invaluable in driving our research forward.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and contribute to bioinformatics and statistical analysis projects
* Develop and implement new and cutting-edge bioinformatics tools and pipelines
* Collaborate with researchers and clinicians to design and execute research studies
* Provide expert advice and support to research staff and students
* Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in bioinformatics and related fields
Required Skills and Qualifications:
* A degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or Engineering
* Minimum 5 years of experience in the analysis of population-scale whole genome/transcriptomics datasets
* Expertise in statistical analysis of population genomics in human disease
* Strong publication record
* Experience in managing multiple internal and external collaborations
